Body Language: Signs of Falling in Love

You have probably heard people talk about the language of love. It may make you think of someone speaking in French, but have you ever thought about how body language itself can also be a language of love?

Have you ever seen two people who are in the early stages of dating? If you have, you may be able to point out certain types of body language that tell you that these two people are falling in love. Newly enthralled lovers are often so wrapped up in each other that they don’t give the rest of the world much of a thought. And that shows through in their body language.

Close to the Heart

Lovers usually stand very close together. That’s because almost everyone has a distance, a personal space if you will, at which they keep other people. Those falling in love however, are excited to be together and that distance will diminish. Because they are spending a lot of time together, they are becoming more familiar with each other and have a natural desire to be physically closer to each other. This closeness can includes holding hands, putting their arms around each other, holding each other’s arms, brushing back hair from the other’s face, or placing their hand on their loved one’s leg.

Those falling in love often lean towards each other. It doesn’t matter if the couple is standing or sitting, this leaning is a surefire sign that they are interested in the other person and what he or she is saying.

But, the couple doesn’t always have to be close for you to know they are falling in love. New lovers may be separated at a party by friends, but they often meet each other’s gaze, even from across the room. This is a way of letting each other know that while they may be talking to other people, their lover is the one that is on their mind.

The Only One in the World

You may be able to tell people are falling in love simply by the way one pays attention to the other when he or she talks. Our lives are often so busy and our minds are filled with so many thoughts, we give people about half of our attention when they speak. Those falling in love seem to hang on every word the other person has to say. They want to learn more about that person, but they also want to appear attentive. They may also smile a lot while listening, appear animated in their gestures, and even laugh or giggle at the smallest jokes.

People falling in love will also mirror each other’s actions. It isn’t done intentionally, but you may see them both sitting with their legs crossed or both sitting with their hands under their chins.

The Eyes Have It

One of the easiest ways to tell people are falling in love is in their eyes. Lovers will often stare into each other’s eyes with great intensity. Again, it is as if they are the only two people in the world and nothing else matters.

Finally, people falling in love often seem to have a glow about them. This is probably due to their extreme happiness at finding someone to which they are very attracted and with whom they enjoy spending time. They are happy on the inside and that reflects on the outside.

Falling in love is one of the great feelings and a person may think he or she can hide their true feelings, but subliminal body language will always give away their true feelings.
